When Abraham was on the verge of sacrificing his son, Isaac, G-d sent an angel to stop him. Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by the horns in the thicket. This ram was provided by G-d for sacrifice in Isaac’s place. After the sacrifice two shofars were made from the ram’s horns. One was used on Mount Sinai. The other will be sounded at the final redemption. In Jewish tradition, the ram’s horn shofar is the preferred to use on Rosh HaShannah to perform the mitzvah. This is because it reminds G-d of Abraham’s devotion as we ask G-d for redemption from our sins.
